Discovering Others I

Tama campus, spring, Friday, 1:20~2:50

The aim of this seminar will be to acquaint students with central theoretical premises that underlie important recent work in interdisciplinary cross-cultural studies, both in the social sciences and the humanities. Particular attention will be given to concepts related to the representation of otherness. The central text will be the theoretical introduction to Edward Said’s Orientalism.

Evaluation will be based on active participation in all activities of the seminar and written reactions to the issues that emerge along the way.

Texts will be provided by the instructor.
