BK. Ezra Pound139. Puette, William J. ‘Ezra Pound: The Meaning of Oriental Literatures to His Poetics’. Insight 6 (1974): 12-23.Puette’s attempt to aid the non-specialist
in making sense of Pound’s use of Chinese and Japanese materials
posits the primacy of Japanese poetry over Chinese, for Pound’s
early knowledge of Chinese was ‘an indirect learning from the vantage
of Japanese scholarship’ via Fenollosa. Cites ‘Chinese Poetry’
(30) in example of Pound’s own ‘unintentional
mixup of Chinese with Japanese’, and suggests that critics of Pound
have perpetuated the error.
