Hone’s indispensable biography includes various details of relevance to this study. Of particular interest are notes about the first performances of At the Hawk’s Well (12, see p. 297), Itô (Ap, see p. 289), Sato (see 21 and 48k)—‘One got the impression from Yeats’s conversational references to Sato that he was possibly a crony of Confucius’, Hone recalls (p. 361)—and Sato’s sword (p. 459).
