Seki’s volume would better benefit English readers, Blunden believes, if it were illustrated, with ukiyoe by Hiroshige (Ap) for example. Blunden’s own comments about Japanese folklore are knowledgeable, and include reference to Mitford’s Tales (see D4) and related writing by Hearn (see D9a).
