BD. Edmund Blunden
141. ‘Still Things Japanese’. Review of
Meeting with Japan, by Fosco Maraini. Eastern Horizon, July
1960, pp. 57-58.
Blunden finds the ‘spirit’ of Maraini’s
work ‘noble and poetical’, but notes that ‘unveiling
Japan is one of the world’s arts and industries’, and that
‘the trite theme that the Japanese are so different from the rest
of mankind as to be an everlasting mystery has never overwhelmed my recollections
of ordinary life among them’.
