Brief occasional verse in praise of Hani Motoko (1873-1957) and Hani Yoshikazu (1880-1955), founders and for more than thirty years directors of the Jiyû gakuen, the ‘Freedom School’, and publishers of Fujin no tomo, women’s friend, the oldest women’s magazine in Japan, begun in 1903 and dedicated since that year to the education and independence of Japanese women.
