Ellen Janson
Japanese Night-Song (1921)
The shadow of a heron’s wing is on the water,
And the pines have drawn slim fingers
Across the moon.
Hush—
Breathe lightly, wind in the plum tree!
Scatter your dreams
Like petals over her heart.
Ellen Janson (dates unknown) published
poems in obscure American journals between 1920 and 1949, and Poems
(Hollywood: E. Janson) in 1952. ‘Japanese Night-Song’ appeared
in Measure: A Journal of Poetry 2, p. 13.
